Host Oxford Claims 7-on-7 Tourney
Oxford head coach Jon Grass has watched his team perform nicely in both official outings since he took over the reigns.
Oxford - So far, so good. The Oxford Yellow Jackets won their spring game against Talladega, their first official outing under head coach Jon Grass, in impressive fassion. After yesterday's impressive showing at the FCA 7-on-7 passing camp held at Oxford's Lamar Field, the Yellow Jackets are 2-0 under their new head man.
Oxford defeated Newnan High School [Georgia] 22-21 in the closing minutes of the championship game staking claim to the one-day tournament title.
Among the participants were a number of solid teams. Shelby County was impressive during the one day camp, as was Maplesville, who lost a ton to graduation in 2008.
Two other teams involved in the tournament were Cherokee County and Heflin, two teams that will once again square off in the upcoming 2008 season. The last time these two teams met, Heflin got the best of the Warriors thanks to a punishing style. Yesterday, HSG caught up with both teams and coaches to get an idea on what to look for when they strap it up for real come August. The video will be uploaded soon.
Opelika and Ohatchee also attended the passing camp.
