Alabama-Missippi All-Stars Announced

St. Jude stand-out JaMychal Green makes list of participants in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.

MONTGOMERY—Twenty-four of Alabama’s top senior high school basketball players have been selected to represent the state in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic basketball doubleheader at Pelham Civic Complex, Thursday night, March 20.

The AHSAA’s Basketball Committee chose 12 boys and 12 girls. The doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m. with the girls contest. The boys will follow at 7 p.m.

Mississippi holds a slim 9-8 edge in the boys’ series, including last year’s 118-113 win at Pelham. Alabama’s girls hold a 9-8 edge in that competition after winning 90-65 last year.

Named to head the Alabama All-Star boys team are Saint Jude coach William Brown and R.C. Hatch coach Homer Davis. Administrative coach is Jamie Lee of Decatur. Brown guided St. Jude (27-7) to the Class 1A state title–the Pirates second in three years–and Davis guided R.C. Hatch (28-1) to the school’s 10th state crown this season–and the Bobcats’ third in a row.

Chosen to lead the Alabama girls are Spring Garden coach Ricky Austin and Midfield coach Reggie Ware. Administrative coach is Brenda Mayes of Muscle Shoals.  Austin led Spring Garden to a 36-0 record and the 1A state championship this season while Ware directed Midfield (31-1) to its second straight Class 4A state title.

Players will report on Tuesday, March 18. A press conference will be held at Pelham Civic Complex at 6:30 p.m. the same day to introduce the players and coaches on each Alabama and Mississippi team.

All players chosen are seniors. Selected to the Alabama teams were:
