Landrum is out indefinitely
Weaver-Any coach’s worst nightmare is to have one of his best players go down with an injury near the end of the season. With not much time for the player to get healthy or time for the other players to find out how to play without him, it can leave a good team vulnerable.
That’s the situation Weaver head coach Daryl Hamby is in right now.
The Bearcats head coach watched star guard Tannrance Landrum go down with what is hoped to be a minor knee injury against Munford last week. The extent of the injury is still yet to be determined, although it may be severe enough to keep him on the bench for the remained of the season.
“He’s on a day-to-day basis right now. He got a little nicked up in the Munford game. It could be a tear but I’m not sure. There’s nothing you can do about a tear anyway,” says Hamby. “We want to save him for the area but we don’t want him to get out of shape because we’ll need him when he’s ready to go. I’ve been through this with players before in football and I tell them guys you’re going to have to play through some pain. Tannrance is a pretty tough kid and I think he’ll do just fine.”
Weaver has a gauntlet awaiting them over the next week before the area tournament begins. They face off with Glencoe tonight, then take on
“We’re hopeful that Tannrance will return. He’s got a knee injury and will have to learn to play through some pain. Losing Tannrance hurts us and it helps us, as long as he can come back. Other guys will have to step up.”
Landrum leads Weaver in scoring, rebounding and assists.
